One Room Challenge – Week 8

It’s week 8 of the One Room Challenge which means the challenge is over and it’s reveal time! I am so happy we decided to take on this bathroom, but what I thought would be an easy room that would be done with time to spare, ended up having its own challenges and still isn’t 100%. But as it stands now, I am so happy with the way it turned out and the work James and I put into it.

One of the elements that changed from the original design plan was the mirror. The original mirror I had selected was oval (with a cute beaded frame), but with the height of the light fixtures (which we didn’t want to change) it just didn’t work well. Thankfully we found a replacement one that worked well with the available space, and fit my design plan.

The vanity is a pre-built one from Home Depot. I switched out the hardware so that it would be the same metal as our faucet, and also to make the vanity feel a little more high end. We also attached the toilet paper holder to the vanity since I didn’t have it in me to disrupt the vertical shiplap that James spent quite a bit of time installing (you really find out how much your husband loves you when you take on home renovations…).

The other issue that came up during this challenge was the faucet and the backsplash. The original faucet I ordered was too large to work with the backsplash, so I returned it and ordered a new one. I measured the new one probably 3 times to confirm it would work with the backsplash and the pre-drilled holes on the vanity. As I’m sure you can see, there is no backsplash installed on the vanity. I’m not sure what type of faucet they expected me to used but none I wanted were cooperating. So we installed the faucet, and I am looking into having the marble backslash piece planed down so it’ll fit in the space (I don’t mind the look without but my kids are chaos with water).

That wallpaper was a labor of love (not sure I’ll take on doing that again), but I love the way it tuned out. You can refer back to my week 2 post to see more on the wallpaper. The rest of our home is pretty simple and traditional, so it was fun to have one room to go a little different in. Below is the before and after. Wallpaper, shiplap, and new fixtures go a long way!
