We finally finished renovating our powder room (honestly it has been complete for a while, just waiting on a new door). This bathroom sits right off of our family room, and (like the rest of the house) was desperately in need of an update. The vanity was bulky, dated, and quite the eyesore sitting so close to the main living area.
The powder room was also small enough that we felt comfortable taking it on as a DIY project (we plan on hiring out some of the work for the two upstairs bathrooms).
After removing the old vanity and mirror, we realized that the drywall needed to be replaced. We wanted to install a pedestal sink, and the previous fixtures left the existing drywall in bad shape. Thankfully James is very handy!
The pedestal sink opened up the powder room tremendously. It made what was a very small, crowded bathroom feel much more open. While we did lose storage with the switch to a pedestal sink, it wasn’t really necessary in a powder room anyway, and we gained back 10x the storage with the completion of our mudroom.
The addition of a very simple craftsman style crown molding really completed this otherwise simple room.
Below is the finished room, and the old. While the renovations we did were simple, they really helped bring this powder room out of the ’90s, and out of the eyesore category.
