Beach Getaway

A weekend at the beach in the Northwest is a little different than when we lived in North Carolina, but is still perfect in its own right. We set out needing a relaxing weekend, and found a cozy Airbnb walking distance to the beach that was dog friendly.

Thankfully we were prepared for the cold, rain, and for a pair of very wet and happy dogs. The house was perfect- enough room for all of us, a mudroom for the dogs, and a cozy fireplace to curl up to at night. Not to mention some great woodwork that had me scheming up all sorts of ideas for a beach house of our own down the road.

We stayed in between Cannon Beach and Astoria, since we knew we wanted to explore both areas. While we still want to try staying in Cannon Beach itself for a weekend, this location worked out perfectly for what we wanted to do this time around.

In addition to spending some time at Cannon Beach and at the beach where our rental house was, we spent a day exploring Astoria. In typical Northwest fashion, it was incredibly overcast and drizzly, but was perfect for visiting the Maritime Museum and taking in the sea lions at Buoy Beer Company. We also visiting the Astoria Column, but I recommend saving that for a day when you have a chance at a good view.

We also stopped at Ecola State Park, but the wind was so bone chillingly cold that we only lasted a few minutes there. Maybe if we didn’t have a toddler in tow we would have lasted longer, but babies and pounding Pacific winds don’t mix.

The Oregon coast was as both of us remembered from our childhood, and we will continue to visit often, rain or shine.
