Puppy Popsicles

In case you didn’t know, we’re kind of overrun with dogs over here. We currently have three Labrador retrievers: Charlie- our oldest who is a giant teddy bear of a chocolate, Callie- our sweet female, and Drax- who is Callie’s son. We bred a litter in 2019 and naturally James picked out the largest male in the bunch. Thankfully he’s a sweetheart, and has responded very well to some intensive training with our hunting trainer.

Since moving to Spokane, we’ve all had to reacclimate to hot summers, including our pups. We keep them inside during the very hot afternoons, but since we’re in a smaller home and with two little kids, they naturally spend a lot of time outside.

We make sure to keep them supplied with plenty of fresh cool water (they’re spoiled with this bowl, but it’s worth it) and shady spots to lounge in, but every now and then we like to spoil them with some frozen treats. While I am sure they’d be happy with just plain old ice cubes, sometimes its fun to give them a yummy frozen treat. Enter the puppy popsicles.

There’s not even much of a recipe for these treats. I just mix peanut butter and chicken stock together until I get the mixture smooth and to a thinned out consistency (roughly 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup chicken stock). I then pour them into silicone trays, and freeze them until they are set up. I have these trays, and they have held up very well over the years and are very easy to pop the treats out of the molds.

I hope your pups enjoy these treats as much as ours do, and make sure to keep your pups cool in the heat!
