Snowshoeing Trillium Lake

We finally dusted off our snowshoes and headed up to Mt Hood for a fun morning of snowshoeing. It had been years since we had gone, having spent the last four years living in the South. We held onto our snowshoes though, and had multiple sets of movers look at them quizzically when they packed our garage up.

Trillium is a beautiful lake with a spectacular view of Mt Hood, and an easy trail for beginners (or very rusty like us). You honestly don’t need snowshoes for most of the trail since its well groomed, but they help if you go off on some of the spurs or with fresh snow (or hills…).

I don’t recommend going on weekends if you can avoid it. We normally hike midweek but had to go on Saturday, and while we got there early, by the time we left it was extremely crowded and the parking situation was chaotic. While beautiful, it is also very popular, and an easy drive from the Portland area. Regardless, it was a fun and easy trail.

Snowshoeing is tough work, not everyone can hang.
